A New Jewel for Rajkot: Atal Sarovar Inaugurated with a Spectacular Fountain Show

Rajkot has a new reason to celebrate! On May 1, 2024 — Gujarat Foundation Day — the grand Atal Sarovar was officially inaugurated, adding a stunning landmark to the heart of the city. Designed as a modern oasis, Atal Sarovar is set to become a major magnet for tourists and locals alike. Spread over 18 acres, the development includes beautifully landscaped gardens, an urban beach, a jogging track, amphitheatre seating, art installations, and a children’s play area. What makes it truly special is its thoughtful blend of nature, culture, and innovation — a space where families can relax, joggers can find inspiration, and photographers can capture breathtaking views.

Beyond its scenic beauty, Atal Sarovar shines as a new symbol of urban rejuvenation under the Rajkot Smart City initiative. The project emphasizes sustainability, community spaces, and water conservation, making it a model for smart, green development. With attractions like the Landmark Fountains and immersive Water Art installations, Atal Sarovar is not just a leisure spot — it’s an experience. Add to that a lineup of cultural heritage sound and light shows and events, and you have a destination that promises to buzz with life all year round.

Overcoming Major Technical Challenges

Executing a project of this scale was no small feat. One of the biggest innovations was running all the lights, valves, and pumps on DC current, which significantly improved the safety and efficiency of the floating systems. However, this posed a unique challenge: with the control room located over 220 meters away from the farthest edge of the fountain, transmitting uninterrupted signals was critical. We had to amplify signals robustly to avoid any drops, ensuring perfect synchronization of all water, light, and sound elements across the massive span.

Adding to the complexity, the water in Hussain Sagar Lake is not regularly cleaned, making underwater work difficult. Traditional installation methods were not feasible. Since there was limited space near the fountain site, installation had to be done on land — far away from the water. We carefully assembled sections of the floating structure onshore and then transported them using three speed boats, pulling each massive segment into place one by one. The coordination between engineering teams, divers, and boat operators was crucial to maintaining the integrity of each float section during transfer.

Atal Sarovar’s musical fountain show is more than just a visual treat — it’s a celebration of art, engineering, and culture, and a proud new attraction that will shine brightly on Rajkot’s map for years to come.
