Symphony Fountains manufactures the core mechanical and electrical components of every fountain system we supply and install. Our in-house manufacturing capability covers fountain pipe fabrication and nozzle header assembly, electrical control panel manufacturing, and floating fountain platform fabrication. All manufactured components are built to project-specific drawings, tested for performance and quality before despatch, and shipped to site with complete installation documentation.
Manufacturing our own components rather than sourcing them from third-party suppliers gives us direct control over quality, dimensional accuracy, lead time, and the ability to customise specifications for the specific requirements of each project. It also means that when a component needs to be replaced or modified after installation, the documentation and manufacturing capability exists in-house to produce an exact replacement without depending on an external supplier who may have changed their product range or discontinued a specific component.
Musical fountain systems consist of three categories of manufactured components that sit between the civil infrastructure and the fountain nozzles, lights, and pumps: the hydraulic distribution pipework and nozzle header assemblies, the electrical control panel that manages the entire system, and for floating fountain installations, the buoyant platform assembly that supports the equipment on the water surface.
The hydraulic distribution system is the network of stainless steel or HDPE pipes that carries pressurised water from the pump outlets to each individual nozzle position. The pipe network must be fabricated to the exact dimensions of the approved layout drawing, with nozzle connection points at precisely the specified positions and orientations. Off-the-shelf pipe fittings cannot produce this level of dimensional accuracy or accommodate the specific nozzle header geometries that musical fountain layouts require. Custom fabrication to project drawings is the only way to ensure the hydraulic system fits the basin exactly as designed and that every nozzle performs at the specified position and orientation.
The electrical control panel is the brain of the musical fountain system. It houses the programmable logic controllers, variable frequency drives, solenoid valve drivers, DMX lighting controllers, audio interface, and power distribution infrastructure that manage every component of the fountain’s operation. A control panel built for a generic purpose cannot accommodate the specific channel count, control protocol requirements, and power management needs of a bespoke musical fountain system. Symphony Fountains designs and builds control panels that are precisely matched to the specification of each fountain project, ensuring every nozzle, pump, and light fixture is individually addressable and controllable from a single integrated system.
Symphony Fountains’ manufacturing capability covers three core product categories, each produced in our facility from project-specific engineering drawings and tested before despatch to the installation site.
Fountain Pipe Fabrication | We fabricate the complete hydraulic distribution pipework and nozzle header assemblies for fountain systems. Pipe fabrication covers the main distribution mains from pump outlets to the fountain basin, the nozzle header pipes that carry water to each individual nozzle position within the basin, the nozzle connection fittings that secure each nozzle to the header at the correct position and orientation, the isolation and balancing valve assemblies that allow individual nozzle circuits to be adjusted and isolated for maintenance, and the pipe support brackets and mounting hardware for securing the pipe network within the basin or vault. All pipework is fabricated from 316-grade stainless steel for permanent underwater or buried service, with threaded, flanged, or welded connections as appropriate for each application. Fabricated pipe assemblies are pressure-tested before despatch and shipped with installation drawings showing exact assembly sequence and final positions. |
Control Panel | We design and manufacture the electrical control panels for all Symphony Fountains musical fountain systems. Each control panel is custom-designed to match the specific requirements of the fountain project, including the number of independently controlled nozzle circuits, the number and type of variable frequency drives for pump speed control, the DMX lighting control channel count for the LED lighting system, the audio interface and amplifier configuration, the show control computer and software platform, the electrical protection and isolation infrastructure, and the remote monitoring and communication interfaces. Control panels are assembled in our facility, tested against the project specification, and commissioned prior to despatch. All panels are built to the applicable electrical safety standards for the installation market, and wiring is documented with full circuit diagrams and component schedules to support field installation and long-term maintenance. |
Float Assembly | We fabricate the buoyant platform assemblies for floating fountain installations. Float assemblies consist of a network of high-density polyethylene or fibreglass buoyancy modules connected by a structural frame that supports the fountain pump, nozzle header, and LED lighting components above the water surface. The platform geometry is designed to the specific layout of the floating fountain nozzle configuration, and the structural frame is sized to the weight of the pump and equipment package while providing sufficient buoyancy margin for safe operation. Float assemblies include anchor attachment points for the mooring system that holds the floating fountain in position on the water body, and provision for the electrical supply cable and control cable entry into the float structure. All float assemblies are water-tested for buoyancy and stability before despatch. |
Our manufacturing process follows five stages from drawing issue to pre-despatch testing. Every component manufactured by Symphony Fountains passes through this process to ensure it meets the project specification and is ready for installation on arrival at site.
Stage | What Happens |
Stage 1 Drawing Review and Bill of Materials | We review the approved project layout drawings and produce a detailed bill of materials for each manufactured component. The bill of materials lists every pipe section, fitting, valve, panel component, and structural element required for the project, with material specifications, quantities, and dimensional requirements. The bill of materials is checked against the layout drawings before any material is ordered or fabrication begins, preventing the costly situation of discovering a specification error or material shortage mid-fabrication. |
Stage 2 Material Procurement | We procure all raw materials and components against the approved bill of materials. For pipe fabrication, this includes stainless steel pipe in the specified grades and diameters, fittings, valves, and mounting hardware. For control panel assembly, this includes enclosures, electrical components, PLCs, VFDs, lighting controllers, and cabling. For float assembly, this includes buoyancy modules, structural steel or aluminium, hardware, and cabling accessories. Materials are inspected on receipt against purchase specifications before moving to fabrication. |
Stage 3 Fabrication and Assembly | Pipe fabrication involves cutting, bending, threading, welding, and fitting pipe sections to the dimensions shown in the project drawings. Control panel assembly involves mounting components within the panel enclosure, wiring all circuits to the approved wiring diagrams, labelling all terminals, and installing the control software. Float assembly involves connecting buoyancy modules to the structural frame, fitting the pump and equipment mounting brackets, and installing cabling infrastructure. Each fabrication activity is checked against the project drawings at intermediate stages to catch any dimensional or assembly errors before they propagate to subsequent stages. |
Stage 4 Quality Inspection | All fabricated components are inspected against the project specification before testing. Pipe assemblies are inspected for dimensional accuracy, weld quality, and correct fitting positions. Control panels are inspected for correct component installation, wiring integrity, and label accuracy. Float assemblies are inspected for structural integrity, buoyancy module connections, and cabling installation. Any non-conformances identified at inspection are corrected before the component proceeds to testing. |
Stage 5 Testing and Despatch Preparation | Pipe assemblies are hydraulically pressure-tested to confirm leak-free performance at operating pressure. Control panels are powered up and tested for correct operation of all control channels, protection devices, and communication interfaces using a test load that simulates the fountain equipment. Float assemblies are water-tested for buoyancy, stability, and structural integrity under load. Tested components are prepared for despatch with protective packaging appropriate for road, sea, or air freight as required by the project logistics plan, and accompanied by installation drawings, component schedules, and test records. |
Exact dimensional accuracy for the project layout: A fountain pipe network fabricated from stock fittings and standard pipe lengths will not achieve the nozzle positions shown in the layout drawing with the precision required for a correctly performing fountain. Custom fabrication to project drawings ensures every nozzle header is at exactly the right position, every nozzle connection is at exactly the right orientation, and every pipe run is the right length for the basin geometry. The result is a fountain that performs exactly as designed from the first commissioning test.
Control panel specification matched to the project: A control panel sourced from a general electrical supplier is not designed for musical fountain applications. It will not have the right combination of VFD channels, DMX outputs, audio interfaces, and show control software integration that a musical fountain requires. Symphony Fountains designs and builds control panels specifically for each fountain project, ensuring every feature of the show is controllable, every component is protected, and the panel can be maintained by the site team without specialist support.
Quality controlled and tested before it leaves our facility: Components sourced from third-party suppliers arrive on site with unknown quality histories and no project-specific test records. Components manufactured and tested in our facility arrive with documented test results confirming they meet the project specification. Problems discovered in the factory are corrected in two hours. Problems discovered on site add days to the installation programme and cost multiples of the factory correction cost.
Long-term replacement parts availability: When a manufactured component needs to be replaced years after installation, the original drawings, bills of materials, and specifications are held in our records and can be used to manufacture an exact replacement. This eliminates the situation where a fountain component fails out of warranty and the replacement part is no longer available from the original supplier because they have changed their product range.
What fountain components does Symphony Fountains manufacture?
Symphony Fountains manufactures three core fountain component categories in-house: fountain pipe fabrication and nozzle header assemblies, electrical control panels for musical fountain systems, and floating fountain platform assemblies. Nozzle fabrication covers the hydraulic distribution pipework from pump outlets to each individual nozzle position. Control panels are designed and built to the specific channel count, drive configuration, and control protocol requirements of each fountain project. Float assemblies are fabricated to the specific nozzle layout and equipment weight of each floating fountain installation.
Why does a fountain control panel need to be custom-built?
A musical fountain control panel needs to be custom-built because each fountain project has a unique combination of independently controlled nozzle circuits, pump speed control channels, LED lighting channels, audio inputs, and show control requirements that no off-the-shelf panel can accommodate. The control panel for a fountain with 50 nozzle positions, 8 pump circuits, and 200 LED channels requires a fundamentally different specification to one with 10 nozzles, 2 pumps, and 30 LED fixtures. Symphony Fountains designs each panel to the exact specification of the project, ensuring every component of the fountain is individually addressable and the control system can execute the show programming without limitation.
What is a nozzle header in a fountain system?
A nozzle header is the pipe assembly within a fountain basin that distributes pressurised water from the main supply pipes to each individual nozzle position. The header is fabricated to the exact geometry of the fountain layout, with a threaded or flanged connection point at each nozzle position at the correct position, orientation, and height. The nozzle screws or bolts directly onto the header connection, receiving pressurised water from the header and converting it into the specific jet pattern produced by that nozzle type. The hydraulic performance of the fountain depends on the nozzle headers being fabricated to the correct dimensions and with the correct connection specifications for each nozzle type.
What material is used for fountain pipework and why?
Symphony Fountains fabricates fountain pipework from AISI 316-grade stainless steel for all components that are permanently submerged in or in contact with fountain water. 316 stainless steel is selected because it provides excellent corrosion resistance in both fresh water and treated water environments containing chlorine and other treatment chemicals, it has a long service life without requiring protective coatings, it is easy to clean and inspect, and its smooth internal surface does not accumulate biological growth that would affect water flow. HDPE pipe may be used for underground supply runs where stainless steel would be unnecessarily expensive.
What is a floating fountain platform assembly?
A floating fountain platform assembly is the buoyant structural frame that supports a floating fountain’s pump, nozzle header, LED lighting, and electrical components above the surface of a lake, pond, or reservoir. It consists of high-density polyethylene buoyancy modules connected by a structural frame that is sized to support the equipment weight with adequate buoyancy margin. The platform includes mooring attachment points for the anchoring system that holds it in position, and provision for the electrical supply cable entry. Symphony Fountains fabricates floating platform assemblies to the specific nozzle layout and equipment configuration of each floating fountain project.
How long does fountain manufacturing take?
Manufacturing lead time for a fountain project depends on the scale and complexity of the components required. Pipe fabrication for a medium-scale musical fountain typically takes two to four weeks. Control panel manufacturing takes three to six weeks depending on the component count and control system complexity. Float assembly for a floating fountain typically takes two to three weeks. For large-scale projects with multiple pump circuits and complex control requirements, manufacturing lead times may be six to ten weeks. Symphony Fountains provides a confirmed manufacturing timeline at the start of the project and maintains regular communication about production progress.
